It’s been the fifth day of the peaceful gathering that takes place in the biggest square of Athens,

Syntagma. For one more day, thousands of people are participating in this movement which has originated in Spain and specifically in Puerta del Sol square. Today though, is a special day, because this movement is happening in 26 countries and in more than 100 cities.

These gatherings are organized by Facebook groups and the correspondence is massive… So far several thousands have agreed in participate in this European movement which will start at 18:00 local time in each country.

Here in Greece, some of the "frustrated" have been on the square continuously for the last 5 days. People unemployed, people with no roof over their heads, people who are most negatively inflyenced from the cuts in wages and pensions and many who have lost their jobs. Over 23.000 people are in the square right now. When one arrives at the meeting point, one is taken by surprise by the view of sea of people, who are talking to each other, laughing, discussing, playing musical instruments and singing. It feels like a concert that is about to start, like one Woodstock in the seventies…

Some are singing the national anthem and waving the Greek flags, making everybody more emotional. No one here came to fight or to hurt others or to break windows. Everything is peaceful. From time to time you can hear some shouting “Thieves” and pointing out at the Greek parliament. They just want justice. They can tolerate the new laws and new adjustments as long as everybody is being treated the same way. They demand the public opening of politician’s bank accounts. Those who stole public money and now act like they did nothing. No political groups have entered and those who have tried were forced out. This is the voice of the people for the people and by the people. All the people want is to be heard and to be considered. After all this is the main idea that democracy was built on 2000 years ago below the Acropolis.

This is Europe united with a common cause…

Enough is enough.
